Goat Rocks High Traverse

This four-day trip combines spectacular scenery and terrain, wondrous wild flowers, and the summit of a glaciated peak.

ITINERARY
Day One – (Hike 8 miles/13.3km with 2,200'/671m max elevation gain) Early morning departure from Portland, Oregon.  We will leave a vehicle at the Walupt Lake Trailhead and continue to  the White Pass Trailhead(4,400'/1,341m). Here we load-up and begin our adventure on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT #2000). The first 6.5 Miles/10.8km, we traverse and switchback up to the Hogback Mt. Saddle (6,600'/2,012m) with great views of the Goat Rocks and Mt. Adams.  From here we Pass above Shoe Lake (6,200'/1,890m) and continue to our campsite at a small lake just south of the Tieton Pass (4,900'/1,494m).



Day Two –(Hike 7.5 miles/14.2km with 800'/244m max elevation gain) Today we follow the PCT  to our campsite at a overlook with spectacular views above the meadows (6,400'/1,951m) just below Elk Pass(6,600'/2,012m).

Day Three –(Hike 9 miles/15km with 1,530'/466m max elevation gain) We continue 9.0 miles/15km, climbing over Elk Pass to our campsite at the awesome Cispus Basin (6,400'/1,951m). Climb Old Snowy (7,930'/2,418m) by the North Ridge route on the way.

Day Four –(Hike 7.9 miles/13.2km with 2,500'/762m descent) From Cispus Basin we continue on the PCT 3.4 miles/5.7km to intersection with Nannie Ridge Trail #98 at Sheep Lake. We descend 4.5 miles/7.5km to our vehicle at the Walupt Lake Trailhead at (3,900'/1,189m).  Return to Portland.
