When it's raining in the lowlands, snowshoes enable us to escape the dreariness of a cloudy city day to enjoy the snowy wonderland that is the backcountry in the winter. And it's great exercise too!
Snowshoes are stable, fun, and are the perfect way to enjoy getting out on the snow. The very best thing about snowshoeing is that you learn 99% of what you need to know in about five minutes. No experience required!
We offer three types of snowshoeing experiences. Depending on your schedule or desires, we're sure any, or all, of our snowshoe outings will be fun and exhilarating outdoor adventures.
Here's what National Geographic Traveler Magazine said about snowshoeing:
"It's true what they say: If you can walk, you can snowshoe. Not only does snowshoeing require little skill-'In the first five minutes, you know 99 percent of everything you need to know,' says Joe Whittington, owner of Oregon Peak Adventures in Portland - it also requires little equipment besides snowshoes, which have become more user-friendly in recent years. Today, there are even snowshoes made especially for women and children. Plus, because there aren't wide variations in skill levels, snowshoeing is an ideal activity for families. It's also one of the most serene ways to experience winter, escaping from crowds...
MOUNT HOOD, ORE. Mt. Hood National Forest is one of Oregon's most beloved recreational areas, and in winter, these woodlands offer miles of snowshoeable terrain. 'Although there's not much elevation change, which makes it advantageous for all levels, there's unmatched beauty here,' says Joe Whittington. Oregon Peak Adventures (www.oreognpeakadventures.com) leads snowshoe trips into the national forest. Trips range from half-day to full day adventures and skirt around lakes, including Trillium Lake, and access part of the Pacific Crest Trail..." National Geographic Traveler.
