EXPEDITION CLIMBING
Learn the basics of climbing a big mountain like Denali. The lecture session covers skills and techniques and clothing and equipment requirements. In the field sessions you will practice the techniques of roped travel, traveling with sleds on glaciers, establishing a protected camp, and thriving in a harsh snow environment. We'll also cover basic survival techniques. Includes instructors, ice ax, crampons, snowshoes, group and camp equipment , meals, and round-trip transportation from Portland. To gain maximum benefit, it is advised that you should have the experience or instruction equivalent to our Alpine Mountaineering and Glacier Travel and Crevasse Rescue Courses. We will drive to Mt. St. Helens , rig-up for glacier travel, and snowshoe or ski to above tree line at about the 5,000' level. We will set-up a camp appropriate for an exposed high elevation site. If weather condition are appropriate, we will climb to the rim via the Dyer Glacier or Swift Creek Route. COST: 1 person - $600, 2 persons - $500 each, 3-10 persons - $400 each.
