Loowit Falls and "The Breech"

We drive from Portland and visit the Silver Lake and Johnson Ridge Visitor Centers. From the Johnson Ridge Observatory we hike 9 miles across the Pumice Plain to the Loowit Falls viewpoint.  Loowit Falls flows out of the crater at the base of  “The Breech”.  We'll finish our lunches here then hike 4 miles to meet our van (which has traveled three hours to circle back around the mountain) at the Windy Ridge Trailhead.    We will discuss the 1980 eruption and observe the progression of the recovery and new growth in the blast zone.  Includes guides, permits, lunch, and transportation.
