Coordinator for Senior Citizen Outings: Design, market, and coordinate senior citizen outings in the Portland, Oregon area.

Our focus is on providing enjoyable, safe, and informative outdoor experiences to our clients. We are dedicated to the very best client service. OPA guides and assistant guides need the following qualifications:

Absolute focus on client enjoyment and safety

Enthusiasm and joy in being in the outdoors

Knowledgeable about the natural features and history of the trip area

Awareness of our environmental impact and the understanding and dedication to minimize that impact

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Documented training appropriate for the guiding activity

Excellent health and conditioning

Current Wilderness First Responder certification and CPR training is required.

Documented Language skills if working with non-English speaking groups

You need to have done the climbing route or hike before you can take clients as a guide.

Guides are expected to provide their own personal equipment

Typically, lead guide status is achieved by assisting for a period of time and demonstrating excellent outdoor and management skills, and client interaction capabilities. If you have worked as a guide before and have references, you may have the opportunity to be hired a guide.  AMGA certified guides will be paid a bonus on climbing trips.

At this time, all of our guides work part-time, reside in the Portland, Oregon area, and have flexible schedules. Clients may call the night before wanting to do a trip the next day. The trip will go to the senior guide who is qualified and available. You can sign up ahead of time for scheduled trips.

OPA is a registered as an Outfitter/Guide with the state of Oregon. We carry full liability insurance for people and vehicles and Workman's Compensation Insurance.

We have special use permits for the following areas (many areas are not be available for our use on weekends from May through September). Please list the hikes/climbs you have done in these areas. Please include information on specific routes, dates, climb leader (if applicable), and any appropriate comments.

Availability: (Amount of pre-notice will vary depending on activity. Portland area and Columbia River Gorge hikes may be arranged the evening before. Mt. St. Helens one day climbs and hikes may be one to a few days. Other climbs and multi-day trips will be arranged further in advance. We need to have some idea of your general availability so we can call the most likely suspects.)

Things you are interested in doing: Hikes, climbs, shuttle service, mountaineering skills training, raft trips (We use registered rafting companies and transport our clients to the put-in location. If you go on the raft, the cost will be considered part of your compensation.)
