  • This three-day course is conducted at world famous Smith Rock State Park in Central Oregon.  Youth Climbers will camp at the Smith Rock bivouac area next to the climbing area.  Our group leaders and instructors are experienced climbers and youth leaders/educators who both enjoy and understand how to work with young climbers.

This course provides the opportunity to cover the basic elements and additional time to develop more intermediate skills appropriate for following a lead climber on multiple pitch climbs. There will be a minimum of one instructor to every three students.  All students will be top-roped when engaged in off the ground climbing activities.

More advanced students will be challenged by the routes at Smith, and may have the chance to practice leading routes as well.  Everyone will leave the trip with a well rounded knowledge of the sport and with a broad range of skills.  This is course is an excellent way for students to make the transition from indoor climbing to outdoor climbing.

Oregon Peak Adventures will provide instructors, round trip transportation from the Portland, Oregon area, meals, permits, group climbing equipment, individual climbing equipment (helmets, harness and  hardware), and tents.  Participants should bring their own sleeping bags, sleeping pads, day packs, warm clothing and rock climbing shoes.
